The ability for any nation to develop nuclear weapons technology is inevitable. The CIA warned about this WAY back in 1975. The cat's out of the bag, so to speak. No matter what any president of any country threatens or wishes, other countries who do NOT have the technology and who DO have a desire to obtain such weapons will eventually do so.

The key to avoiding nuclear disaster at the hands of groups like Al Qaeda is diplomacy with the countries who have nuclear weapons technology. Diplomacy doesn't mean rolling over and accepting that a sovereignty be allowed to do whatever they wish. It means being smart enough to play the diplomacy game.

Drawing lines in the sand and daring people like Kim Jong Il to "push the button" is a mistake. It is also a sure-fire way to get the weapons into the hands of people like Osama bin Laden.

I believe the world is SAFER when more nations get that weapon and capability.
Maybe now we can stop shoving our weight around and actually RESPECT others and
their soveriegnty
